Compress Image to a Target Size

Upload forms often reject images over 100 KB, 200 KB or 1 MB. Enter the size you need and this tool finds the best quality that fits, making the image smaller in pixels only when quality alone is not enough.

How to use the Compress Image to a Target Size

  1. Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image, or try the example.
  2. Enter the maximum file size and choose JPEG or WebP.
  3. Select Compress image, check the preview and download the result.

Supported files and limits

  • KB is counted as 1,000 bytes, the stricter reading, so the result also fits forms that count 1,024.
  • The highest quality that fits is used. If even low quality is too large, the image is made smaller in pixels, keeping its proportions, unless you turn that off.
  • Transparent areas become white, and hidden metadata such as location and camera details is not copied.
  • Images up to 50 MB and 50 megapixels.

Common questions

How do I reduce a photo to 100 KB?
Choose the photo, enter 100 KB and select Compress image. The tool tries quality levels until the file fits, then shows the result and its exact size before you download it.
Will the image lose quality?
Some, because compression removes detail. The tool always uses the highest quality that fits your target, so a larger target keeps more detail. Check the preview before using the image.
Should I choose JPEG or WebP?
JPEG is accepted almost everywhere. WebP files are smaller at the same quality and work well on websites, but some older forms and programs do not accept them.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is compressed in your browser, and it is never sent to our server or anyone else.
