How to use the RF Creditor Reference Checker
- Paste RF references, one per line, or choose a TXT or CSV file. For a CSV, pick the column that holds the references.
- Select Check references and review the result and explanation for every line.
- Download the report as CSV if you need to keep or share it.
Supported files and limits
- A valid checksum shows a reference is well formed. It does not prove that it belongs to the intended invoice, creditor or account.
- RF references are remittance references, not IBANs or account numbers. Domestic reference formats are not checked.
- Up to 1,000 references or 1 MB per check. Only spaces and letter case are normalised; leading zeros in the reference are kept.
- Spreadsheet formulas in the input are made inert in the CSV report.
Common questions
What is an RF creditor reference?
An international structured payment reference defined in ISO 11649. It starts with RF, followed by two check digits and up to 21 letters or digits, and lets a supplier match incoming payments to invoices automatically.
How is the check digit calculated?
The first four characters are moved to the end, letters are converted to numbers (A = 10 … Z = 35), and the resulting number must leave a remainder of 1 when divided by 97, the same MOD-97 method used for IBANs.
Does a valid result mean the payment will arrive?
No. The tool checks the format only. It does not look up banks, invoices or payment status.
Are my references uploaded?
No. Checking happens in your browser, and nothing is sent to our server or anyone else.
