Common questions
What interest can I charge on a late invoice?
Between businesses in the EU and the UK, the law allows the central bank reference rate plus 8 percentage points a year, unless your contract sets another rate. The reference rate is the European Central Bank's main refinancing rate, or the Bank of England base rate, on the relevant date.
What is the €40 compensation?
Under the EU Late Payment Directive, a business can claim at least €40 per late invoice for its recovery costs, on top of interest. UK law sets £40, £70 or £100 depending on the invoice amount.
From which day is interest counted?
From the day after the payment was due until the day it was paid. An invoice paid on or before its due date owes nothing.
