  2. Choose desktop or mobile and select Preview snippet.
  3. Adjust the text until it fits, then copy or download the meta tags.

Supported files and limits

  • Google cuts titles by width in pixels, not characters: about 600 px on desktop. Descriptions are cut at about 920 px on desktop and 680 px on mobile.
  • The width is measured with the fonts search results use, as you type.
  • The preview is a guide. Google sometimes rewrites titles and descriptions, and adds dates, ratings or other details.

Common questions

How long should a title tag be?
Up to about 600 pixels on desktop, which is usually 50 to 60 characters. Wide letters like W and M take more room, so measure in pixels rather than counting characters.
How long should a meta description be?
About 120 to 155 characters. Google shows up to about 920 pixels on desktop and less on mobile, so put the most important words first.
Why does Google show a different title?
Google rewrites titles that are too long, stuffed with keywords or do not match the page. A clear, accurate title of the right length is most likely to be shown.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The preview is created in your browser and nothing you type is sent to our server or anyone else.
